Suspected Islamist militants shot and killed a Yemeni man Thursday because they believed he was gay, according to law officials.

One of two men riding a motorcycle shot at the young Yemeni man outside his house in Huta, located in the capital of Lahij province.

The gunmen were both able to escape before police arrived.

Police have blamed the shooting on the al-Qaeda affiliated group called Ansar al-Sharia.

Police reported that this was the sixth shooting since the start of last year related to an al-Qaeda affiliated group. Similar killings have occurred in Abyan and Aden.

The group is currently imposing Islamic law in areas of Abyan where it has greater influence.

La Policía ugandesa recibió hoy información «de fuentes muy fiables» sobre la entrada del supuesto terrorista alemán este martes en el país, fronterizo con el oeste de Kenia.

“This is banditry, but it is also a vendetta against Christians,” said a religious-order priest. “They are targeted attacks that have the effect of creating confusion and fear among civilians.”

Jefe talibán se atribuye el asesinato de un general paquistaní

Mullah Fazlullah, a senior leader in the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan, has claimed credit for the assassination of a senior Pakistani Army general in a roadside bombing in the northwestern district of Dir last month. Fazlullah appeared in an official Taliban video, which also showed footage of the attack on the general’s vehicle.

The videotape was released on Sept. 29 on the Facebook page of Umar Media, the official propaganda arm of the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan, and was obtained and translated by the SITE Intelligence Group. The video features an interview with Fazlullah and details the Sept. 15 IED attack that killed Major General Sanaullah Niazi, the commander of Pakistani Army troops in Swat, along with a lieutenant colonel who commanded the 33 Baloch Regiment, and a soldier. The Long War Journal noted on the day of the attack that Fazlullah had very likely orchestrated it.

Fazlullah, who is also known as Mullah Radio for his radical sermons broadcast throughout the northwest, ranks among the top leaders of the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan. He has vowed to continue the fight to regain control of Swat and the surrounding districts. He is one of the most extreme commanders in a group filled with extremists. He was one of the first leaders to have opposed polio vaccinations. Last year, he proudly ordered the assassination of Malala Yousufzai, the young schoolgirl who passionately spoke out against the Taliban in Swat, and accused her of violating sharia, or Islamic law.

Fazlullah is also closely tied to al Qaeda. When he openly ruled Swat from 2007 to 2009, he said al Qaeda fighters were welcome there and that training camps were in operation. One of his top deputies, Ibn Amin, also served as a leader of one of six known brigades in al Qaeda’s Lashkar-al-Zil, or Shadow Army. Amin was killed in a US drone strike in Khyber in December 2007.

He was speaking in Islamabad after five new cases of polio were confirmed this week in the country’s restive tribal areas, where the Taliban banned the vaccination drive in June last year, accusing health workers of being spies.

The ban was imposed a year after Dr Shakil Afridi, a physician, conducted a polio vaccine campaign in Abbottabad as a ruse to help pinpoint the location of former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. The terror chief was later killed in a US military raid in May 2011.

At least 20 immunization workers have been killed by suspected Taliban militants in Pakistan since the imposition of the vaccine ban. Many areas are now considered too dangerous to continue the program.

Pakistan is one of only three countries left in the world where polio is endemic, according to the WHO. In 2011 it had 198 confirmed cases, the highest number of cases in any nation in the world.

 In a rare move, the Commandant of the Marine Corps has recommended that two senior Marine generals retire because of their failure to adequately protect a large base in southern Afghanistan from a Taliban attack last September in which two Marines were killed and six Marine jets were destroyed.

Eight other Marines and eight British troops were also injured in the attack.

The recommendation from Gen. James Amos that two Marine generals responsible for the base retire in effect means they are being fired.

According to a Marine Corps press release, Amos decided on the course of action after reviewing a four-month investigation conducted by U.S. Central Command into the Sept. 14, 2012 attack.

Under the cover of darkness, 15 Taliban fighters dressed in U.S. Army uniforms cut a hole into the perimeter fence of Camp Bastion, the sprawling joint U.S.-British base located in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand Province. The Taliban fighters then snuck onto the base’s flight-line, where they began to destroy Marine aircraft housed at the base, eventually destroying six Marine Harrier fighter jets and severely damaging two others. It was the largest loss of U.S. aircraft in the entire war in Afghanistan.

The two officers Amos is holding accountable for the attack are Maj. Gen. Charles M. Gurganus, the top Marine commander in Afghanistan at the time of the attack, and Maj. Gen. Gregg A. Sturdevant, who headed Marine aviation units there.

The Fatwa Council listed a number of restrictions that men and women must comply with while talking on social network sites, according to a statement.

«The main purpose of the conversation should be marriage through legal ways, and it shouldn’t have any other goals which could mark a violation of Sharia law. Any personal details, which could arouse lust, must not be addressed during the conversation.«

Suspected militants dressed in military uniforms attacked the town on Sept. 17, burning at least 100 houses and shops in the raid, according to Garba Ngamdu, the head of labor affairs in the Borno state government. The raid followed a Sept. 7 attack on the town that left 11 civilians dead, according to local residents.

Islamistas de Boko Haram asaltan un colegio en Nigeria y matan a 50 estudiantes

El director del Colegio de Agricultura, en el estado norteño de Yobe, confirmó que supuestos milicianos islamistas tirotearon el colegio la noche del sábado cuando los alumnos dormían y que al menos han muerto 50 personas. También informó que los atacantes prendieron fuego a las aulas del colegio, del que alrededor de mil estudiantes lograron escapar.

Medios nigerianos informan que se siguen recuperando cadáveres de las aulas, pasillos y de los alrededores del colegio.

El ataque se produce en medio de una escalada de violencia que afecta al norte de Nigeria, donde opera Boko Haram. Este sábado fuentes oficiales nigerianas informaron que en dos ataques separados perpetrados por este grupos en la ciudad de Gamboru habían muerto 27 personas. A mediados de septiembre  unos 150 milicianos murieron en un choque con la fuerzas de seguridad de Nigeria, que registraron un centenar de bajas.
Las escuelas, que los islamistas radicalizados consideran centros de cultura occidental, son a menudo en objetivos de sus ataques. El pasado mes de julio extremistas islámicos tirotearon y quemaron vivos a 42 estudiantes y a un profesor en un ataque contra un internado en el noreste de Nigeria. El grupo Boko Haram apoyó el ataque pero no asumió la responsabilidad del mismo.

La ministra de Exteriores de Kenia, Amina Mohamed, ha confirmado que entre los asaltantes del Westgate hay extranjeros y ha detallado que se trata de «dos o tres estadounidenses» de origen árabe y de «una británica» que «ya había hecho esto varias veces».

Mohamed ha insistido en que «Al Shabaab ha estado trabajando con otros en otras partes del mundo para aumentar su capacidad y llegar a sitios donde antes no llegaba». Interrogada sobre si Al Qaeda está implicada, ha contestado: «Absolutamente».

Attacks by an Islamic rebel splinter group in North Cotabato province resulted in five deaths on Monday in the latest fighting linked to southern Mindanao’s troubled peace process.

Armed militants of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), a breakaway group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), attacked four villages at about 2am local time but were repelled by authorities.

A firefight, which peaked at about 8am, resulted in the deaths of four BIFF fighters and one soldier. Another soldier was wounded.

The rebels fled with 15 civilian hostages including 11 farmers whom they used as human shields to escape, said army spokesman Colonel Dickson Hermoso, as sporadic fighting continued in the area through the afternoon.
