Opposing views:

Suspected Islamist militants shot and killed a Yemeni man Thursday because they believed he was gay, according to law officials.

One of two men riding a motorcycle shot at the young Yemeni man outside his house in Huta, located in the capital of Lahij province.

The gunmen were both able to escape before police arrived.

Police have blamed the shooting on the al-Qaeda affiliated group called Ansar al-Sharia.

Police reported that this was the sixth shooting since the start of last year related to an al-Qaeda affiliated group. Similar killings have occurred in Abyan and Aden.

The group is currently imposing Islamic law in areas of Abyan where it has greater influence.

Catholic Culture.org:

Weeks after jihadist Syrian rebels attacked the Christian village of Ma’loula, Islamist militias have attacked the historic Syrian Christian town of Saidnaya, according to a Fides news agency report.

“This is banditry, but it is also a vendetta against Christians,” said a religious-order priest. “They are targeted attacks that have the effect of creating confusion and fear among civilians.”

Imprescindible:

In fact, I have reason to be paranoid.

I discover that mother-in-law has instructed the servants to stop boiling my drinking water. Because the sewage system consists of open irrigation ditches that are used as public bathrooms and for drinking water, I contract dysentery.

Perhaps she thinks I am already “Afghan enough” to withstand any and all germs. Perhaps she wants me dead.

She then begins her conversion campaign. She gives me prayer rugs and prayer beads and urges me to convert to Islam.

If I don’t, I think, will she continue her campaign to sicken and kill me?

The next day she barges into my room with a servant and confiscates my precious hoard of canned goods.

“Our food isn’t good enough for her — she eats from cans,” she says.

I am her captive, her prisoner; she, my jailer, might treat me more decently if I find ways to please her. This is difficult for me to write about but I did it. I repeat the words: “There is one God, Allah, and Mohammed was his prophet.”

I am now a Muslim — at least in my mother-in-law’s eyes — but that still isn’t enough for her. When she is angry at me, she spits at me. She calls me “Yahud” or “Jew.” When I complain to my husband, he dismisses me as being dramatic.

I must escape. Sigue leyendo

At least 142 corpses were found in a northeastern Nigerian town after an attack by suspected members of the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram, local officials said.

“Yesterday alone 87 corpses were evacuated from the road and bushes,” Saidu Yakubu, a spokesman for the Borno State Environmental Protection Agency, said yesterday in a statement handed to reporters in Benisheik town.

Suspected militants dressed in military uniforms attacked the town on Sept. 17, burning at least 100 houses and shops in the raid, according to Garba Ngamdu, the head of labor affairs in the Borno state government. The raid followed a Sept. 7 attack on the town that left 11 civilians dead, according to local residents.

FrontPage Magazine:

During the four-day siege in Kenya’s Westgate shopping Mall, al-Shabaab jihadists raped, tortured, beheaded, dismembered, castrated, gouged out eyes, amputated fingers and hung hostages on hooks from the roof. According to a forensic medical doctor, “They [the al-Shabaab attackers] removed eyes, ears, noses. Fingers are cut by pliers, noses ripped by pliers”… “Those are not allegations. Those are f****** truths,”… “They removed balls, eyes, ears, nose. They get your hand and sharpen it like a pencil then they tell you to write your name with the blood. They drive knives inside a child’s body. Actually, if you look at all the bodies, unless those ones that were escaping, fingers are cut by pliers, the noses are ripped by pliers.” There were also reports that hostages were beheaded and their heads thrown out of the windows. Antena 3:

UCANEWS:

Attacks by an Islamic rebel splinter group in North Cotabato province resulted in five deaths on Monday in the latest fighting linked to southern Mindanao’s troubled peace process.

Armed militants of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), a breakaway group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), attacked four villages at about 2am local time but were repelled by authorities.

A firefight, which peaked at about 8am, resulted in the deaths of four BIFF fighters and one soldier. Another soldier was wounded.

The rebels fled with 15 civilian hostages including 11 farmers whom they used as human shields to escape, said army spokesman Colonel Dickson Hermoso, as sporadic fighting continued in the area through the afternoon.

Catholic Culture.org:

Two grenades were discovered at the cathedral in Bossangoa, a city of nearly 40,000 in the Central African Republic, the Fides news agency reported.

Members of Seleka, an Islamist rebel movement, seized power in the nation in March, and Christian institutions have suffered numerous attacks.

Más sobre Seleka aquí:

“The funding sources are worrisome. They are the same ones that funded the rebellions from Libya to Tunisia to Mali,” Territorial Administration Minister Jose Binoua said, implying that other countries like Chad are involved.

Some observers believe that even if the rebellion is mostly made up of former Central African rebels, it also includes “former members of the Central African Armed Forces (FACA), as well as Chadian, Sudanese and Nigerian mercenaries” — claims the rebels deny.

According to Marchal, “given the rebellion’s origins in the north, we can assume there are many Muslims in their ranks.”

A suicide bombing attack on an Anglican church in Pakistan has left several dozen dead, according to multiple media reports.

The attack took place in Peshawar, a city of 3.6 million in northern Pakistan. According to CNN, the death toll has reached 81.

“All Saints’ Church, Inside Kohati Gate, Peshawar, Pakistan became a target of terrorism today,” said a statement on the local Anglican diocese’s website. “As the Sunday service ended and the people came out of the church, two suicide bombers entered the church compound from the main gate and blew themselves up in the midst of the people.”

“Today, in Pakistan, because of a wrong choice, a decision of hatred, of war, there was an attack in which over 70 people died,” Pope Francis said. “This choice cannot stand. It serves nothing. Only the path of peace can build a better world.”

“Absolutely there are parallels,” explained John Rosenthal, a Europe-based journalist and author of The Jihadist Plot: The Untold Story of Al-Qaeda and the Libyan Rebellion. In his book, Rosenthal documents in great detail how, in the Libyan conflict, the Obama administration literally switched sides in the “war on terror,” joining with self-styled al-Qaeda leaders against a former terror-war ally who was hard at work battling the very same Islamic extremists that the U.S. government had supposedly been pursuing for a decade.

Rosenthal told The New American that the Obama administration’s Syria policy “is a continuation of its Libya policy”: siding with Islamists against secular regimes that helped the U.S. government in the terror war. The international conditions, however, are different this time, he added, primarily because the Russian government has refused to cooperate with pro-regime change forces in the United Nations Security Council under the so-called responsibility to protect doctrine.

English: Mosque in Ceuta, Spain

English: Mosque in Ceuta, Spain (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Speaking with NBC News, the activists said there has been an uptick in the movement toward Al Qaeda because fighters want to side with a winner in the battle between Assad and the opposition: “If there is no action [over Assad’s alleged use of chemical weapons], everyone will be desperate. We are already desperate. We are dying. Many will join Al Qaeda. Even the educated will join them, because no one is helping.”

NBC News also spoke with new Islamist fighters who are looking for a way into Syria so they can take up ranks in the opposition as well.

One such fighter, Abu Adbul Rahman, was sitting in a safe house in southern Turkey when he said he was waiting to be smuggled into Syria: “Almighty Allah has made jihad a duty on us. When our Muslim brethren are oppressed, it is a duty to support them wherever they are, because Muslims are not separated by countries.”

US Intelligence Community Seal

While the number of Americans who have traveled to join the jihad in Syria is low, some members of the U.S. intelligence community worry that fighters who receive training and battlefield experience in Syria could return to the West with skills honed by fighting in the country’s civil war

“At some point all of these people from Europe are going home. All the folks there from all over the world, including the United States, will be coming home if they do not meet their end on the battlefield,” said Rep. Mike Rogers, the Republican chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, on Tuesday.

U.S. intelligence estimates differ on how many Americans have joined the fight with al Qaeda. Some officials say the number could be as high as 60 U.S. citizens, while others put it much lower, at 10. Hundreds of European nationals have joined al Qaeda-linked groups since the civil war began more than two years ago, say U.S. intelligence officials.

In the audio, put out on jihadi forums by Al Qaeda’s media arm Al-Sahabal-Zawahiri calls on Muslims to adopt an approach of “sporadic blows” inside the U.S. in order to increase the burden on the American economy. The translation was made available to TheBlaze through the Middle East Media Research Institute, a nonprofit group that provides translations and research from the Middle East.

“Such an approach will keep the U.S. in a constant state of heightened security,” al-Zawahiri said. “Still, Muslims should await every chance to deliver a major attack against the U.S., even if they had to wait years for such an attack.”

Dozens of Christian families have fled from their homes in a village near Lahore after a pastor was accused of blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad.

In a discussion with a Muslim man on August 24, Pastor Sattar Masih, 37, was accused of saying that Muhammad was a brutal man who killed innocent people.

Masih denies the accusations, saying he said nothing derogatory about Islam or the Prophet.

The pastor was beckoned before Islamic clerics to plead his case. “The clerics will decide if he blasphemed against our Prophet and in case he refused to appear before the clerics then we will kill him,” said his accuser, 18-year-old Ali Hassan.

Fearing he would not be given a fair trial, Masih fled to Lahore with 21-year-old Christian Wasim Raza, who had introduced Hassan to the pastor, after a group of Muslims had undertaken a house-to-house search for them.

Muslim, ethnic Fulani herdsmen shot five members of a Christian family to death last week, including a 7-year-old boy, and killed another Christian as they fled, relatives said.

Alleged cattle theft may have been the pretext for targeting the predominantly Christian agrarian community, but the gunmen struck the family of 50-year-old Dung Peter only because his home on the eastern edge of Kunte-Kuru village, outside of Jos, was the most accessible for the guerrilla-style attack, they said.
